Vappu Part 2 (May 1)

I decided to go for an extended walk today to celebrate May Day. The day started out with a quick visit to the water hole where a different species of ducks (Eurasian widgeon) showed up.

I walked over to a nearby island (Savisaari) with a connecting road to the mainland. There was a stable and riding school on the island. If you look closely you’ll see the white horse was being cleaned by birds.

I did see a few more critters including squirrels and woodpeckers while hiking on the island.

Quite a few people were out today, walking their dogs, biking, and even cross country skiing. Everyone was enjoying the first day of Finnish Spring (it’s about 40F outside today).
